A girls trip to southwestern Florida was a great way to start the month of February. We stayed at a beautiful resort in Cape Coral and decided to spend one day of our trip at Sanibel Island. It’s located on the Gulf Coast, and is a very cute and charming island that offers beautiful beaches where you can relax and unwind, and that’s just what we did.

Before we ventured to the island, we bought a Daycation pass from Sundial resort. They were running a great B1G1 promotion that included a $30 food and drink credit. I have never been on a “Daycation” before, so finding out about passes like this has opened up a whole new world. The food credit was the perfect amount for lunch and a drink. We were able to use it at their onsite restaurant, Turtle’s Tiki Bar. I ended up choosing the coconut shrimp and the sweet potato fries, and both were fantastic.

The day pass allowed for the use of the resort’s pool and beach area, restrooms, tennis courts and bikes. Beach chairs and umbrellas were included as well, and we arrived early enough to take advantage of that. They also had cabanas you could rent if you wanted a more private area, but we didn’t feel that it was needed, considering the beach was not overly crowded. It was a perfect warm and sunny day to be at the beach. The water was a little cool so we didn’t get in, but we had a great time walking the beach searching for shells. Even though I never know what to do with shells when I bring them home, I found some great ones and brought them home anyway.

At the end of the day, before we left the island, we stopped by The Shack. It’s a cute little ice cream shop and if you ever have a chance to go there, you should. I had a peanut butter cookie ice cream sandwich that was filled with peanut butter cup ice cream. Others in our group got the flavor of the day which was Captiva Sunset (also fantastic). Everything is made in house and it’s delicious!

There is so much more on the island to do than just laying out on the beach. So one day may not be enough if you like to explore. Next time I would like to check out the lighthouse and eat at some restaurants that were recommended, but for this vacation our ‘Daycation” was perfect!
Note: Sanibel Island was hit by hurricane Ian back in 2022. Many are still in the process of rebuilding, so while you are driving around the island you will see some houses and businesses that are damaged and even some that are abandoned.

Chasing waterfalls! Rainbow Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains never disappoints, even when the skies are gray. It’s a great hike with the sound of the cascading water and the beauty of the misty surroundings. Nature’s wonders never stop amazing me.

I wanted to do something this year that was active and intentional and that fit with my love for traveling. So, my husband and I decided that we would try to add more hiking into our year. We have hiked all over the country as we have traveled, but this year we wanted it to be more intentional. We debated on how to choose our hikes, but eventually settled on choosing one area and hiking as many trails in that area as we could…. #travelblogger #smokeymountains #hikingthesmokies
